Five Stars Rise in the East · Belt and Road International Art Exhibition
December 9, 2023–January 8, 2024 · Quanzhou Maritime Museum, Quanzhou, China

Stone Chun Shi participated in this international group exhibition, part of the Fifth Maritime Silk Road International Arts Festival. The exhibition brought together 220 works by 140 artists from 18 countries and regions, spanning Chinese painting, oil painting, printmaking, and other art forms.
Exhibition Background
Held for the tenth anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative, the exhibition explored the history and cultural connections of the Silk Road through Chinese painting, oil painting, printmaking, and other art forms.
Yang Xiaoyang, chairman of the China Culture and Art Development Association, described openness, freedom, and diversity as central characteristics of the exhibition. Artists approached history and contemporary life through different materials and methods, creating a dialogue across cultures and periods.
“Five Stars Rise in the East” refers to a Han-dynasty brocade discovered at the Niya site in Xinjiang. Its motifs evoke the history of the Silk Road and traditional Chinese philosophy and aesthetics. Around one-third of the 284 specialists involved in the earlier Belt and Road International Art Project participated in this exhibition.
The opening also brought together specialists in art, literature, economics, and tourism for discussion. The exhibition ran from December 9, 2023 to January 8, 2024.
